Hydra in Ink

HYDRA IN INK

Place is fragile & impermanent. During the summer 2019, I spent 40 days on the Greek Island of Hydra. I took watercolor paper, 2 meters of canvas and a small Altoid can with watercolor. I arrived with the idea of using the found materials to create pigments for the resulting work. I found oleander, trumpet vine, lemon trees, & rusty tables all of which you see in this group of works on paper. Two questions drive this work: 1. what forms emerge from our ever evolving relationships with place and 2. how can space be used to express the fragility of the planet?Â
